Perth is located on the west coast of Australia and is the largest city in the west with a population of over 2.1 million. Perth Zoo is located directly on the Swan River in the middle of the city and was opened in 1898. Covering an area of 17ha, the zoo is divided into three main areas: Australian Walkabout with animals such as the Tasmanian devil, kangaroos and koalas, Asian Rainforest (here you can find Sumatran tigers, Malayan bears or Asian otters) and African Savannah (here live e.g. giraffes, spotted hyenas and African lions). In addition to the main areas, there are several smaller side areas. In total, more than 150 animal species are kept in the zoo.
