The history of the Puchheim folk festival:



1960

The forerunner of the Puchheim folk festival, which is still held today, was the municipality's millennium celebration in 1960. The hearty celebration was so popular with the people of Puchheim and the visitors and was so successful that the municipality decided to organise an annual folk festival from 1961 onwards.



1961

The first Puchheim folk festival took place from 15 to 19 September 1961. Even then, the people of Puchheim and their guests celebrated in a traditional beer tent with good Bavarian beer, good food and a few fairground stalls. Due to the constantly growing number of visitors, not only was the marquee enlarged, but the number of merry-go-rounds and fairground stalls also increased steadily over the years.



1973

The Puchheimer Vereinsverband (PVV), founded in 1972, is entrusted with the organisation of the Puchheimer Volksfest for the first time. Mr and Mrs Schöniger from Heimstetten were appointed as the festival hosts. At the municipal council meeting on 8 March 1973, local councillor Franz Metz suggested that the municipality should consider whether the folk festival could be held at a more favourable location. At a cost of approx. 4,000 marks, the approx. 8,000 square metre site on the corner of Bürgermeister-Ertl-Straße and Alpenstraße was then laid out and levelled for all further folk festivals.



2008

After the end of the folk festival, festival organiser Schöniger explains that he has made a deficit and is no longer willing or able to continue the Puchheim folk festival in 2009 for financial reasons. Attendance at the folk festival had declined in recent years. The Paulaner brewery is also no longer interested in continuing the event. After further negotiations between the local authority and all parties involved had come to nothing, it was clear that the Puchheim folk festival would not take place in 2009. The Puchheim Association decides to dissolve itself at an extraordinary general meeting on 28 October 2009. According to the entry in the Munich Register of Associations on 8 June 2011, the PVV is deemed to be defunct.



2009-2012

There is no folk festival in Puchheim.



2013

"New" Puchheim folk festival AUFTAKT from 12 to 17 April 2013, organised by the town of Puchheim. New festival host: Jochen Mörz. First Mayor Seidl opens the "Puchheimer Wiesn" on 12 April with the beer tapping.



2020-2021

No folk festival due to Corona.



2023

A very special year! From 14 to 23 April 2023, the Puchheim folk festival AUFTAKT celebrates its 10th anniversary.



The Volksfest 2019 in numbers:

- Fairground 8,000 m²

- Tent size 1,250 m²

- Seating capacity marquee 1,500 people

- Seating in the beer garden 500 people

- 20 showmen

- 35 clubs with approx. 800 people took part in the parade

- 276 hectolitres of beer, 93 hectolitres of non-alcoholic drinks
