The Walter Zoo has been located in Gossau in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, just 16 kilometres west of the canton's capital, St. Gallen, since 1961. Around 900 animals from over 100 species live on the 5.5-hectare zoo grounds. In addition to a petting meadow, the chimpanzee, tropical, predator and reptile house, there is also a hoofed animal stable, dwarf otters, a hedgehog care centre and various aviaries. If you would like to ride a pony or camel, you can also do so at Walter Zoo. You can also be enchanted in the zoo theatre or in the Tingel-Tangel Varieté. Of course, Walter Zoo is open all year round and also offers a selection of food and drinks in its zoo restaurant. The Walter Zoo is therefore a worthwhile excursion destination in Eastern Switzerland, which is visited by around a quarter of a million people every year.
