The Annentag is the largest town centre fair in the Weserbergland region and is hosted and organised by the town of Brakel. The festival traditionally takes place on the first weekend in August. With over 300,000 visitors, Annentag is a major crowd-puller far beyond the region's borders.


Every year from Friday to Monday around the first Sunday in August, around 280 showmen and traders transform the old town of Brakel into a colourful festival mile. On Sundays, the religious origins of the festival are commemorated with a solemn procession through the veneration of St Anne in the baroque St Anne's Chapel at the gates of the town. In keeping with tradition, deals are still finalised early on Monday morning with a handshake at the stalls and cattle market. A magnificent firework display on Monday evening brings four days of high spirits to a close.
