Once again this year, many people are expected to attend the North Hessian folk festival and guests from near and far will celebrate the parades together with the people of Kassel, Kasselan and Kasseläner and let themselves be carried away by the colourful hustle and bustle on the banks of the Fulda.


A festival with a long tradition - Fullewasser, Fullewasser hoi hoi hoi

The Zissel, with its numerous rituals and programme highlights, is part of the cultural and social life of our town with its endearing consistency and thus makes an important contribution to local identity and the preservation of customs. Consistent and tradition-conscious, yet always new and contemporary - that's how we know and love our Zissel in northern Hesse.

Boats, paper lanterns and a keg of beer were the simple ingredients of summer fun on the Fulda - back in the day. Songs were sung, people were cheerful and it is not certain whether the modest pleasure was already known as ‘zisseln’ (dialect for scattering, dispersing) back then. Over the years, however, the tranquil pastime has blossomed into a widely famous and original local and water festival in northern Hesse.
