The Julifoor in Veurne is an annual, traditional folk festival and one of the largest funfairs in the region, attracting visitors from near and far.

The Julifoor stretches picturesquely through the historic city centre of Veurne. The main areas are the Grote Markt, the Appelmarkt and the Sint-Denisplaats. This central location creates a special atmosphere, combining the colourful hustle and bustle of the fair with the charm of Veurne's historic architecture. In the evening, when the lights of the rides are lit, the town is transformed into a lively spectacle.


Visitors can look forward to around 40 different attractions and stalls. The range of attractions is diverse and caters to all age groups:

• Rides: From classic carousels for the little ones to fast-paced bumper cars and more modern rides, there is something for everyone.

• Entertainment: A funfair and various shooting galleries invite you to try your hand at games of skill, where you can win attractive prizes.

• Culinary delights: Your physical well-being is also well catered for. Typical fairground treats such as the famous ‘oliebollen’ (fried dough balls, often sprinkled with icing sugar), crispy French fries, sweet cotton candy and savoury snacks are available at numerous stands.


Special highlight: The penitential procession (Boeteprocessie):

A very special and deeply rooted event closely associated with the Julifoor is the traditional penitential procession (Boeteprocessie). This will take place on Sunday, 27 July 2025. Hundreds of participants, dressed in detailed historical costumes, re-enact biblical scenes and the suffering of Christ. The procession begins when the historic bell ‘t' Bomtje’ of St. Nicholas Church rings at 3:30 p.m. During the procession, the fairground stalls on the Grote Markt close temporarily to ensure the smooth running and undisturbed dignity of this significant event. The combination of traditional fairground attractions and this deeply religious procession makes the Julifoor in Veurne a unique experience.

The Julifoor is therefore not only a festival of entertainment, but also an important cultural part of Veurne's annual calendar, combining tradition and modern fun in a special way.
