Every year during Advent, the Bremen Christmas Market transforms the historic city centre into a festive and lively winter wonderland. The event is characterised by its special atmosphere, combining traditional splendour with the exciting hustle and bustle of a funfair – a combination that is unique in this form and makes the festival a special experience.


The classic Christmas market stretches out around the town hall and Roland statue (both UNESCO World Heritage Sites) in the heart of the city. Festively decorated stalls dominate the scene, offering handicrafts, traditional gifts and a wide range of culinary delicacies, from mulled wine and punch to roasted almonds and hearty dishes. The medieval backdrop and atmospheric lighting of the market square create a particularly contemplative and festive atmosphere.


At the same time, the area on the Weser is complemented by the ‘Schlachte-Zauber’, a historical and maritime market that often features additional folk festival-like elements. In addition, the extended areas of the Christmas market actually offer fairground elements and rides – from classic carousels to temporary attractions. This fairground area adds a cheerful, dynamic touch and distinguishes the Bremen Christmas market from many purely contemplative markets. The combination of historical splendour, classic handicrafts and the entertaining thrills of the fairground elements makes the Bremen Christmas market a versatile and popular meeting place for visitors of all ages.
