The Antwerp Christmas market is part of the comprehensive “Winter in Antwerp” event and is considered one of the most spectacular and extensive Christmas markets in Belgium. The festive activities transform large parts of the historic district and extend across several iconic squares in the city: the Grote Markt, the Suikerrui, the Handschoenmarkt, the Groenplaats and the Steenplein on the grounds of Het Steen Castle.


The entire brightly decorated historic city centre, framed by impressive architecture, looks breathtaking during the holidays. The market offers around 100 stalls at its various locations, creating a variety of experiences. Visitors can discover a wide range of delicacies, warm drinks, decorative items and handicrafts. The culinary experience is a special highlight, with Belgian delicacies such as warm waffles, hearty stews, decadent chocolates and the iconic smoutebollen (a type of round doughnut balls) filling the air with enticing aromas.


A major attraction is the ice rink, often located on Groenplaats or another central square, which invites visitors to skate under the watchful eye of Rubens' statue. Another striking feature is the tall Ferris wheel on Steenplein by the River Scheldt. At a height of up to 55 metres, it guarantees a romantic view over winter-illuminated Antwerp and the river. The programme is often complemented by family-friendly activities, a magical winter forest, a giant slide and live performances. The festive atmosphere and variety of locations make the Antwerp Christmas market the perfect place for Christmas shopping, enjoyment and convivial moments.
