The Salzburg Christmas Market, as it is known throughout the world today, has been around since 1974. Every year, the market opens with a festive ceremony on the Thursday before the first Sunday in Advent and closes its doors again on January 1. From local customs and traditional Christmas tree decorations to gifts for young and old, incense for the festive season, and all kinds of culinary delights in the form of Austrian specialties, mulled wine, and punch, the Christmas market on Cathedral Square has everything your heart desires. The famous Advent market attracts countless visitors every year and is also very popular with locals.
