The Bochum Christmas Market, often referred to as Bochum Christmas, transforms the city centre around the boulevard and Dr. Ruer Square into a festive landscape of lights and is considered one of the most atmospheric markets in the Ruhr area.


The special and unique feature of Bochum Christmas is the Flying Santa Claus. Every day, an artist dressed as Santa Claus floats above the heads of visitors in a reindeer sleigh on a rope at a height of 33 metres. This spectacular show, which starts and ends at Dr. Ruer Square, tells a little story each time and is a crowd-puller for all age groups.


The market itself consists of over 180 lovingly decorated stalls offering traditional handicrafts, regional specialities and international delicacies. In addition to classic mulled wine and potato pancakes, there is a wide variety of food from all over the world. The entire boulevard area is illuminated by thousands of lights, creating a particularly cosy and inviting atmosphere.


Another focus is on the children's programme. The Flying Santa Claus has his own elf workshop for the little ones. In addition, the market stalls offer promotions and special offers for families on certain days. The market thrives on a mixture of traditional festive cheer, high-quality gastronomy and the unique, spectacular show element of the Flying Santa Claus.
