The Christmas market in Altötting is one of the most atmospheric Christmas markets in Bavaria. It transforms the historic Kapellplatz, the spiritual heart of the pilgrimage town, into an Advent wonderland. The festively lit stalls are harmoniously grouped around the Gnadenkapelle chapel and the Marienbrunnen fountain, which shines with a special glow during Advent. Visitors will find a carefully selected range of traditional handicrafts, from nativity figures and Christmas tree decorations to regional woodwork, as well as a rich selection of culinary delights, including mulled wine, punch, and hearty specialties. The contemplative atmosphere is enhanced by a daily program of brass ensembles and choirs on the market stage. A highlight for families is the regular visit of St. Nicholas with his host of angels. In addition, Altötting invites visitors to the nativity scene season, when artistic representations can be admired in the surrounding area. The market traditionally takes place on the four Advent weekends and offers an incomparable combination of pilgrimage tradition and Christmas magic.
