Over eleven days, the Cranger Kirmes attracts around four million funfair enthusiasts to the eleven-hectare fairground on the Rhine-Herne Canal every year. Always on the first Friday in August, the mayor of Herne opens the largest fair in North Rhine-Westphalia. The opening ceremony in the Crange festival hall includes the traditional tapping of the barrel and the cry of "Piel op no Crange!" (followed by eleven firecrackers.

On the Thursday before the fair, the rides are in full operation, inviting visitors to take their first stroll.


With more than 500 rides, the Cranger Kirmes is the second-largest fair in Germany and a highlight of the summer. Crange regularly attracts people from all over Germany and neighbouring countries. Around 50 rides, show rides and running rides provide thrills, speed and a large portion of fun. From games of chance and skill to classic funfair delights and cosy beer gardens to fast-paced rides through loops or darkness - Crange offers something for every taste and budget.


Particularly noteworthy: the atmosphere of the Crange family funfair is characterised by the unusual layout of the shops on the funfair square and the numerous Heckenwirtschaften - cosy beer gardens in the backyards around the funfair square. The opening and closing fireworks are an experience for the whole family.
