The butterfly zoo Papiliorama originally opened in Marin-Empagnier in 1988, burned down in a major fire in 1995 and was reopened in the same year. Due to the lack of space, the zoo relocated in 2003 and celebrated its reopening in Kerzers. About 100 animal species spread over 1,000 animals live in a tropical climate on an area of 1200 square meters, making it the largest butterfly garden in Switzerland. In the Nocturama there is an exhibition that is unique in the world, in which daylight is filtered out, giving the impression of a full moon night. Thus, it is possible for visitors to observe nocturnal animals that cannot be found during the day. There is also an aviary with an area of 500 square meters, in which - depending on the season - up to 10 species of butterflies can be seen.
