In the district of Verden in Lower Saxony, or rather in Barme in the municipality of Dörverden, you will find the Wolfcenter Dörverden, which opened on 28 April 2010 on the site of the former Lower Saxony barracks. The idea to set up the Wolfcenter came to the investor and operator couple during a trip to Canada, where they visited a similar Wolfcenter. The Wolf Centre aims to familiarise visitors with the wolf, which has been extinct in Germany since the beginning of the 20th century at the latest and has been reintroducing itself since the 1990s, mainly from Eastern Europe, and is now a protected species. In addition to the five wolf enclosures, in which several wolves live, there is an alpaca, goat and prairie dog enclosure on an area of around 5.2 hectares. Regular show feedings are one of the highlights of the Wolf Centre. You will also find a permanent exhibition here, which is divided into five themed areas: "The Fascination of Wolves", "Among Wolves", "Hunted by Wolves", "Wolves and Humans" and "From Wolf to Dog". So that the little ones can let off steam during the visit, you will of course also find playgrounds at the Wolfcenter Dörverden. If you want to fortify yourself during your visit, you are sure to find delicious food and drinks in the restaurant next to the permanent exhibition. With the tree house hotel and the tipis, it doesn't have to be just a day visit. The Wolfcenter Dörverden is only around 50 km from Bremen and around 70 km from the capital of Lower Saxony, Hanover, making it an ideal day trip destination for wolf fans of all ages.
