Dornröschen

Dornröschen
For a long time, the king and queen wished for a child. Finally, a frog prophesies the birth to the queen. Twelve fairies are brought to the feast to bless the girl, but a thirteenth is passed over because there is no gold plate left for her. She then bursts in and curses her to die by stabbing her with a spindle in her fifteenth year. But a fairy has not yet spoken her blessing and softens the death to a hundred years of sleep. The king has all the spindles burnt. At the age of fifteen, when her parents are gone, the girl finds an old woman spinning in a castle tower, grabs the spindle, stabs herself and falls asleep. All the people and everything in the castle are asleep too, thick thorns grow all around. The princess is rumoured to be the Sleeping Beauty, but princes who go in search of her die miserably in the thorns. When a hundred years have passed, another prince hears about it, the thorns are flowers and let him in. Sleeping Beauty wakes up from his kiss, everything wakes up and celebrates the wedding.
