In 1829, the first Corpus Christi fair was held in Sterkrade. The small, contemplative market (six to eight traders) has developed into one of the largest city centre and street fairs in Germany. The festival now attracts over 1 million visitors a year.

The city of Saarlouis organises the traditional Ludwiskirmes with Krammarkt on the Großer Markt.
