Gettorf is located halfway between Kiel and Eckernförde, less than 10 kilometres from the Baltic Sea beach. The Gettorf Zoo emerged from a private hobby in 1968. Through extensions, the small zoo in Schleswig-Holstein has grown to a total area of 4ha.

With its many water slides, bars and restaurants and extensive green areas, the aquapark 'Neptune' offers a very special experience. It is still a very young park, which opened in 2017 after 2 years of construction.

Kirw Sunday is always on the 2nd Sunday in August. The Hülzweiler fair ('Helzwella Kirw') begins on the Saturday before and ends on the Wednesday after. Johannes Knoll, known as "Kirwenhannes", rules the village of Hülzweiler over the 5 days.
