The history of the Lübeck Folk Festival goes back to 1848. At that time, however, the festival was still a marksmen's festival under the name "Allgemeine Scbheibenschießen". In 1871, the event was given its current name, "Volks- und Erinnerungsfest".

On the first weekend in September, it's time for the Moers funfair, which attracts around 400,000 visitors to the city of the counts.
